Tasked with crafting artworks for a thematic feature in the Danish weekly magazine Weekendavisen. In essence, the narrative probes the complex notion of beauty as a form of capital - a concept far trickier to pin down than economic or social capital. The writer illuminates research that highlights our awareness of discrimination based on factors like skin tone and gender, yet brings to the forefront our often overlooked biases toward individuals deemed 'ugly' or 'beautiful.'
The primary cover artwork presents a portrait that defies conventional gender definitions, embracing a fluid and indeterminate identity. By delicately blurring elements around the face, avoiding fixating on specific facial features, my intention is to encapsulate the intrinsic essence of the subject depicted.
